Our Pure New Zealand Beeswax is 100% natural with no additives or colouring.
Beeswax has an endless number of creative uses here are a few to get you started:
Beeswax is a natural wax made by honey bees themselves. The bees use wax to form complex hexagon honeycomb shaped cells in the hive for honey storage and as protective housing for their young.
Beeswax is naturally yellow in colour, due to the natural mixing of pollen, propolis (natural resin) nectar and honey when the bees are producing wax. Our beeswax is bleach free. If the wax is white in colour it has most likely been bleached.
The Natural aroma of Beeswax - through the process of the bees making the beeswax, it takes on the colour and smell of the nectar, resin and pollen within the hive, creating a sweet, honey like aroma to the beeswax.
Both the scent and colour of the beeswax can vary between hives and batches due to the pollen, resins, and nectar that the bees are in contact with. The particles are gathered by the bees on the flowering plants in their surrounding area near to the hive.
Our beeswax is filtered to remove any impurities. Beeswax is relatively hard when solid, it is soft and moldable at approximately 30°C. Beeswax has a low melting point at 62 – 65°C.
Wax bloom - if the beeswax is left in a cool place, it can develop a white powdery appearance known as “bloom”. It is a natural property of beeswax and can be easily removed by carefully warming the beeswax in the sun, or gently warming it with a hairdryer, or fan heater. Alternatively, it can be left for its rustic effect.
